The NJ Highlands Coalition is hosting a great informative webinar on Wednesday Dec 28th at 7pm EST.

One of the greatest challenges facing New Jersey residents today is the effects of climate change. Record high temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns that promise both extended droughts and excessive flooding threaten our water supplies, food production, homes, and health. To address these effects, New Jersey must be a leader in not only mitigating but reversing the effects of climate change by committing to reducing and sequestering its carbon emissions.

Trees are well known for their ability to sequester and store carbon, and it has been proven that the largest trees store the most carbon, thereby providing the greatest resilience against climate change. Yet, New Jersey continues to cut down its most mature forests, with the largest trees that provide New Jersey’s greatest defense against climate change.

Join Leslie Sauer, founder emeritus of Andropogon Associates and native landscape restoration pioneer, for a discussion of the myths used to justify forestry in New Jersey public forests, and why ecological restoration is the only way to meet New Jersey’s climate goals.
