Start: Monday, January 23, 201712:00 PM

TAKE ACTION!

12:00pm - 12:45pm: Community action and piñata smashing of the swampy Wall St. billionaire climate denier agenda (you don't want to miss it!)
(across the street from 250 Broadway in front of the City Hall gates)

12:45pm: March to 250 Broadway, 16th Floor Committee Room

1:00pm: NYC Council hearing on public solar starts

BACKGROUND:

In the President’s first 100 hours, grassroots groups across the nation will be demonstrating their commitment to resist efforts to rollback on climate and human rights under the new administration. As the federal government appoints a trove of corporate elites and climate deniers to high positions in the Cabinet, NYC workers and community members are taking a stand and demanding that this is the moment where our City needs to go bigger and bolder on not only climate sustainability, but good jobs and strong communities. Join us at the action where we will be taking down a piñata symbolizing the “Wall St. billionaire climate denier takeover.” This will coincide with other actions happening throughout the country.

Right after this action, a City Council hearing on public solar will be taking place at 250 Broadway at 1PM. While we support NYC's efforts to install solar on its public buildings as an important step to tackling climate change, we are also highlighting the need for more than solar panels in one of the most unequal cities in the nation. Public solar projects are critical opportunities to bring us closer to a more just and equitable city by ensuring the following:

* High quality, career path jobs and expansion of employment opportunities for low-income people, people of color, and women

* Prioritization of environmental justice and low-income communities for public solar investments

* Sharing energy savings with public institutions and communities in need

All are invited to the hearing after the action.
