Join us for our third annual Lift Every Voice event: Lift Every Voice Portland! Historically, this event is held in Washington, D.C., but this year we are going to Portland, OR to highlight their historic 2024 elections.
We’ll kick off Tuesday evening with a special dinner honoring the life and legacy of Lani Guinier, a civil rights titan who dedicated her career to advancing voting rights in the U.S.. She argued that the Voting Rights Act was trapped in the past, relying on outdated frameworks of segregation, while modern reforms—like proportional representation—could build a truly equitable democracy. As we reflect, celebrate, and set the stage for the work ahead, we’ll explore how Portland’s groundbreaking electoral reforms bring Lani’s vision to life.On Wednesday, we’re hosting an all-day convening to unpack Portland’s historic 2024 elections—the first time a major U.S. city has used proportional representation since the 1950s. Through panel discussions and expert presentations, you’ll get an inside look at how the system was implemented, how communities engaged with it, and how it shaped the new government. Community leaders, government officials, journalists, and 2024 candidates—both victorious and not—will share their insights on this transformational moment in democracy.
This is more than a discussion—it’s a blueprint for the future. RSVP now to secure your spot and be part of the movement for a fairer, more representative democracy!
