MA AFL-CIO Union Candidate School

Start: Saturday, December 07, 2019 9:00 AM

End: Saturday, December 07, 2019 2:00 PM

Support for union members running for elected office is a top priority for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and our affiliates. We know that when our members run on a platform of working people’s values and receive unified support from the labor movement, we will win. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO and its Executive Board are establishing a union candidate school to train our members to run for elected office from the local/municipal level all the way up to statewide/federal office.

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO and its Executive Board are proud to announce the first session of our MA AFL-CIO Union Candidate School to train our members to run for elected office from the local/municipal level all the way up to statewide/federal office. Our first session will be held on Saturday December 7th, 9am-2pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The training will be free of charge and participants will be given materials to use as a reference for campaign purposes.

In order to be eligible, members must contact their union leadership for sponsorship and register with the MA AFL-CIO. The training will be helpful for those considering a run for office, those who have made the decision to run, and union political and legislative staff looking for an opportunity to learn more about the campaign process.

The program will consist of 4 segments including:

  • Building Union Support and Endorsements from the labor community
  • Big picture union issues and pledge to support
  • Making the decision to run
  • Nuts and Bolts of Campaigning

We need your help recruiting members: if you know anyone who has shown interest in running for office, that you believe would make a strong candidate, or if you have staff that could benefit from a refresher on the campaign process please contact MA AFL-CIO Political Director,

Kevin Brousseau at kbrousseau@massaflcio.org.
