March Central Brooklyn DSA Branch Meeting + Social

Start: Wednesday, March 29, 2023 6:30 PM

End: Wednesday, March 29, 202311:00 PM

Join the Central Brooklyn Branch of NYC-DSA for our second branch meeting of 2023, followed by a social.

As usual, come early at 6:30 p.m. for pizza and stay late til 11 p.m. to socialize over drinks.

This  meeting will focus on budgets, both the City and the State—and what they say about what we prioritize.

We’ve made remarkable progress toward making New York's ultra-rich pay. In advance of the state budget vote on April 1, organizers will discuss statewide fights to keep tenants in their homes, build public renewable energy (challenging the power of Con-Ed and National Grid) and instate new corporate and capital gains taxes.

Meanwhile, at the city level, Eric Adams is defunding NYC with his 2023 preliminary budget—cutting education, libraries, union jobs, childcare, and social services. We’ll break down its dire consequences for NYC’s working class—and strategize the fight to win the public goods New Yorker’s deserve.

We will be joined by renowned historian Kim Phillips-Fein, author of the Pulitzer-nominated book Fear City: New York's Fiscal Crisis and the Rise of Austerity Politics for some remarks.
