March with Shahid Buttar in San Jose at the Silicon Valley Youth Climate Strike!

Start: Friday, September 20, 2019 2:45 PM

End: Friday, September 20, 2019 5:00 PM

Scientists say we have 10 years to stop the climate crisis and that failing to do so will be a death sentence for future generations. On September 20th, people around the world will participate in a #ClimateStrike and leave their schools and workplaces to take to the streets. Join Shahid for Change and the Silicon Valley Youth Climate Strike so we can shut down business as usual and send a clear message to the fossil fuel billionaires who harm so many frontline communities. Shahid Buttar will be speaking at this event.

We encourage students to talk to their teachers and classmates about the strike and our climate demands. The Silicon Valley Youth Climate Strike asks of local governments, schools and tech companies to

  1. Take immediate action to be carbon neutral by 2025
  2. Ensure a socially and environmentally just transition from fossil fuels

The strike begins with a march from Diridon Station (65 Cahill Street) near downtown San Jose to San Jose City Hall (200 E Santa Clara Street). As we march toward City Hall, we will chant, sing songs, and hold up signs. Once everyone reaches the City Hall plaza, there will be a rally with a variety of speakers, cheers, and news coverage. The strike will end at around 5pm on the City Hall steps.
