*****Bring a flashlight to shine a light on the injustice of this coup and coverup!
On Monday, December 2, the North Carolina Senate rammed through a legislative coup and coverup in the form of Senate Bill 382 through a rushed and secretive process. North Carolinians from all walks of life had packed the gallery to make sure the extremist leadership of the NC Senate wasn’t able to dismantle democracy without a witness. Unfortunately the entire gallery was cleared so the Senate could move forward with the vote in the shadows. Making further mockery of democracy, once North Carolinians opposed to the extremist agenda were removed from the gallery, the NC Senate cut off the audio so no one could hear them.
The people of North Carolina know that now is the time to come together regardless of political affiliation — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, all North Carolinians who believe in democracy—and demand an end to the legislative coup and coverup going on in the North Carolina legislature in a fight to uphold the will of the people. The NC General Assembly's lame-duck supermajority is desperately and corruptly attempting to consolidate power in brazen fashion. The recent Senate Bill 382, introduced and rushed through the legislature with barely an hour’s notice, purports to be a disaster relief bill while devoting most of its 132 pages to an autocratic and anti-democratic legislative coup, bypassing the will of the voters and keeping North Carolinians in the dark. It is urgent that we stand up against this undemocratic, behind-closed-doors power grab from the people of North Carolina.
Whether or not you can make it in person to Raleigh, please take action by sending your lawmakers an email using Democracy NC's tool and then call your legislator every day next week urging them to vote to sustain the Governor's veto of this immoral bill.

FORWARD TOGETHER!
