Mothers' Rebellion 2023

Start: Saturday, May 13, 202311:00 AM

End: Saturday, May 13, 202312:00 PM

THE CHICAGO ACTION
We will meet at Maggie Daley Park, 337 E. Randolph Street, at 11 a.m.  The event will last about an hour and will be a casual, kid-friendly gathering where you can meet other green moms and families, and experience with your loved ones and other activists the joys of being outdoors in the spring. We will bring coffee and donuts, and there will be face painting and sign-making for the kids (and adults!). You will also have the opportunity to participate in “the circle,” a demonstration for climate justice which will be happening all around the globe on the same day. More information on Mothers* Rebellion and “the circle” is below. We will gather at the Park's BCBS Great Lawn grassy area, close to the nest swings at the playground. The closest entrance is at Columbus and Monroe. Look for our Extinction Rebellion flag. (Please note that this is a change from the originally announced location in Millennium Park.)

If you have any questions at all about the even, email us at contact@xrchicago.org. If you have trouble finding us on May 13, text 773-208-8601.

WHAT IS MOTHERS' REBELLION?
Mothers' Rebellion is a movement of women in a growing global community including Germany, Sweden, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia. We will not give up the fight for a sustainable present and future for the current and coming generations. We want to be able to look our children in the eyes and say that we truly do all that we can. We turn into action our grief and frustration over the lack of a powerful, transformative response from our politicians and leaders.

OUR METHOD: "THE CIRCLE"
The method we use in our demonstrations is simple. It is a circle of mothers* sitting down together in a public space, for example in a pedestrian street, a public park, or outside a government building. We sit peacefully facing the passers-by, playing music, and helping one another and others to connect with climate emotions.  With our circles we convey that we refuse to look away, that we refuse to give up and that we will do everything we can to protect the Earth.

*Mothers, grandmothers, aunties, daughters, nieces, caretakers, and allies are welcome!
