Motorcade to Moral March on Washington
Start: Monday, December 13, 2021• 7:30 AM
With the pandemics of systemic racism, poverty, voter suppression and COVID-19 still wreaking havoc on our daily lives, our democracy, and our nation’s social and moral infrastructure, we need Congress to pass voting rights protections and the Build Back Better plan before the end of the year.
Join the WV Poor People’s Campaign in Martinsburg, WV for a Motorcade from West Virginia to Washington, DC to the Moral Monday March on Washington, DC! We will start at Senator Manchin's Martinsburg Office with a short rally and time to decorate our vehicles for the motorcade at 7:30am. We will launch the motorcade at 8:00 and make our way to Capitol Hill to join the Moral Monday March on Washington at 12pm.
As Pam Garrison, WV PPC Tri-Chair, reminds us, "We have to pass the Build Back Better plan in 2021, because later is too late for people suffering in West Virginia." We must go to DC because our congressional representatives aren't carrying our voices in their debates.
We are veterans demanding upgrades to the VA. We are mothers whose children rely on the Child Tax Credit. We are careworkers and home-health workers demanding a pay raise as we care for the aged, sick, and shut-in. We are WV miners demanding the health coverage we need to survive. We are low-wage, essential workers who need paid family and sick leave, and the extension of the earned-income tax credit. We are preschool and public school teachers, and daycare workers demanding universal pre-K for all 3 and 4 year olds. We are immigrants demanding a pathway to citizenship. We are students and young people who need investment to end the climate crisis. We are small family farmers demanding farmland conservation. We are queer and trans people and women demanding dignity and respect. We are grandparents who are sick and tired of our children and grandchildren leaving our state for economic opportunity elsewhere. We are indigenous people fighting to save Oak Flat and all indigenous land from extractive corporations. We are citizens whose votes have been suppressed and disenfranchised demanding an expansion of voting rights. We are homeless people demanding affordable housing and an end to the eviction crisis. We are clergy declaring the moral imperative of lifting from the bottom so that everybody rises. WE ARE WEST VIRGINIANS from the hood to the hollers across this state! WE WANT ALL OF OUR RIGHTS AND WE WANT THEN NOW! Senator Manchin doesn't represent us. He's a liar and he continues to ignore us! We won't be silent as he negotiates this bill on the backs of the 710,000 poor and low-income West Virginians he swore an oath to serve.
Sign up today. Join this powerful delegation traveling to DC to ensure that Manchin and all of the US Senate hears the cries of West Virginians who won't be silent anymore!
