Host Guidelines - Opt Out of MCAS/PARCC

Hosting an event is easy!

Before the party:
--Talk to your friends and neighbors who are parents of children in the tested grades. Get at least one other person to join you in sponsoring the party – preferably more.
--Choose a location (this could be your home, or a public space like the community room at your local library), date and time for the event
--If you want your event to be open to the public, fill out the event information on this page and we will add it to our list of events to promote. If you create a Facebook event, you can include the link on this page. If you don't want your event to be public but you want parents in your area to contact you for more information, for the location of the event include the city and zip code but put "RSVP for address" in the address field. Contact lesstestingmorelearning@gmail.com if you need help creating your event
--Invite parents you know to attend and spread the word.

At the party:
--Have everyone introduce themselves, say who their children are and in what grades and school, and why they’re thinking of opting their children out.
--Optional: Show this video: https://vimeo.com/120619448. Watch it first and see if you think it will help.
--Pass out copies of the opt-out fact sheet and sample letter and review them together.
--Make plans to follow up and support each other!

After the party:
--Set up the email group (such as a Google group) or Facebook page.
--Follow through with commitments made to each other at the meeting
--Email lesstestingmorelearning@gmail.com or lisa.guisbond@gmail.com to say what happened at your meeting and your next steps.

Okay!
The shorter and more descriptive, the better.
Virtual events do not require a location, but virtual events with a location will appear on the event campaign map. (Those without a location will appear in search results only.) At least a ZIP/postal code is required for map placement for virtual events.
Select the timezone in which your event will take place.
Add Banner Image (optional)

Upload an image or banner below. Your image should be 1500px wide by any height (600px is suggested). It will be scaled to a final size of 750px wide.

Okay!
This is shown to people before they RSVP. Let them know what the event will be like and why they should attend.
