Pico Rivera has long been a hotbed for worker activism. A powerful group of primarily Latina women led the first Walmart strikes there prior to Black Friday in 2012. They held a sit-down strike, led civil disobedience outside that very store last fall and have been vocal leaders in the fight for $15 an hour and access to full-time, consistent schedules.
The abrupt closure of the Pico Rivera, California Walmart store is a clear and direct assault on the rights of working people everywhere to stand up for what they believe is right. The store was closed abruptly along with four others nationwide for an alleged national plumbing emergency, yet local officials in all of the locations confirm that Walmart never applied for nor received the necessary permits for such work.
OUR Walmart needs you to tell Walmart to reinstate all those workers by simply delivering a petition and letter to their store that you can download here.
