October CLE: Laws for Poll Watchers (Training for Democratic Poll Watchers in TX)

In this CLE, Texas Democratic Party Voter Protection Director John Mott will discuss:

  • the role that poll watchers play at polling places;
  • resources and strategies to advocate for voters;
  • the types of issues poll watchers see at the polls and how to document them; and
  • where to get help, if needed.
Attorneys who complete this CLE, as well as the Secretary of State’s mandatory poll watcher training, will be qualified to serve as a poll watcher in their home county within Texas (except for Harris County). Harris County poll watchers must complete the Secretary of State's training, as well as the training provided by the Harris County Democratic Party (to learn more about training as a poll watcher in Harris County, sign up here).  

*1.0 hours of MCLE accreditation has been approved from the Texas Bar Association.


About John Mott
John Mott is the Voter Protection Director at the Texas Democratic Party. Prior to joining the Voter Protection team, Mott served as Deputy Director of the DNC Office of Party Affairs and Delegate Selection, and as Deputy Political Director with the state party. He has worked as a campaign manager, consultant, and advisor to candidates and elected officials in the North Texas area. Before transitioning to professional political work, he managed a boutique law firm in McKinney, handling commercial litigation cases throughout Texas.
