Oxford Rise for Climate Justice

Start: Saturday, September 08, 201812:00 PM

UPDATE: 3 September 2018

**LOCATION CHANGE**: Our meeting point will now be in Radcliffe Square by the Radcliffe Camera (meet in the top left corner by Brasenose Lane for a 12pm start). All welcome!

THE PLAN:

Exactly one week after Rise for Climate, Oxfordshire County Council meets to decide how to wisely invest Oxfordshire's £2bn pension pot for the future on behalf of all of us.  September 8th is our chance to get a clear demand across that we want real climate action from Oxfordshire's elected leaders.

Join us for a stunning arial photo action to demand Oxfordshire County Council walk the talk on climate action by divesting its £2bn pension pot from fossil fuel companies and re-investing for the public good and a safe future for all of us. Everyone welcome - suitable for any age.

Together, at 12pm, we’ll form a big human banner using some colourful props, to create a giant X for divestment and a giant yellow sun representing the renewable energy-powered future we want to see now!

After the photo action, we'll be moving to Cornmarket to do some simple street polling. We'll hand out '£2bn notes' to people there and ask them to make a quick choice about how the council should invest its employees and citizens' money for the future - fossil fuels or renewables?   The results of the poll will help add media and public pressure to the Pension Fund council meeting the following Friday.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • your friends and family -- the more people there are, the more resounding the message
  • wear dark clothing if possible for the arial photo
  • banners and home-made placards with why you are ready Rise for Climate (placard generator here for home-printing)
