This is a virtual event

WHAT:   A Virtual Press Conference to announce proposed draft maps for PA House and Senate voting districts submitted by Fair Districts PA to the state’s Legislative Reapportionment Commission.

WHEN:   Wednesday, October 27, 4:00-4:30 PM, followed by a deep dive into each map and time for Q&A from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

WHERE:  Online by Zoom; Register to attend. You will be sent a link to the event 24 hours in advance along with links to the draft maps and other background information useful to understanding the process and localizing your coverage.

WHY: Despite a concerted half-decade-long effort to reform Pennsylvania’s redistricting process, and growing public demand for change, the state’s legislative leaders have steadfastly refused to turn the process over to an independent body. Now the time for the required decennial redrawing of the state’s legislative and Congressional districts is upon us, driven by the latest data from the 2020 US Census.

The reform effort has produced major changes in public awareness of redistricting and an intense desire to be heard. Over the past three years alone, literally thousands of amateur map mappers, using sophisticated publicly-available software, have shown that it is possible to draw districts that adhere to sound principles of fairness and strengthen representation for all Pennsylvanians.

Fair Districts PA, a leader in the drive for reform, is preparing its own maps for the state’s Senate and House districts - and will unveil drafts to the public at this virtual press conference event. We will detail how these maps were created, the priorities used to create them, and what comes next as the legislature gets ready to craft and release its own proposals before the end of the year.

Once the drafts are made public we will provide options for the public to share feedback, make final alterations based on that feedback and submit final maps to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission.

We hope you'll join us at this event on Wednesday October 27.
