Come to the Friends of FDR/Packer Park community meeting on the Meadows!

Start: Tuesday, February 13, 2024 6:00 PM

Make your voice heard on the future of FDR Park!

The Fairmount Park Conservancy, working with the Parks & Rec Department, plans to cut down dozens of heritage trees in the FDR Park Meadows in the next phase of its $256,000,000 plan: artificial turf fields plus floodlights, roads, and parking lots, where there are now picnic grounds, meadows, and woodlands.

The $100 million sports complex represents nearly 40% of the cost of the FDR Park plan.

The clearing of the area around Bellaire Manor, including the Picnic Grove, could start as soon as late February. But before the Conservancy can bring in the bulldozers, it needs to get a special zoning exception. It will go before a combined meeting of Friends of FDR Park and the Packer Park Civic Association to make its case.

Save The Meadows invites you to attend and show your opposition to the destruction of the Meadows in a respectful and neighborly way. While everyone is invited (and may be able to speak), only members of those two groups will be able to vote — and we're told that no signs will be allowed in.

We are not affiliated with the Friends of FDR Park or Packer Park Civic Association, so signing up here doesn't sign you up to speak at the meeting. But if you sign up here, we'll send you details on how that will work, once we find out.
