Moderated Conversation | Wildcats, Boycotts, and Academic Capital

Start: 2020-08-07 12:00:00 UTC Pacific Daylight Time (US & Canada) (GMT-07:00)

End: 2020-08-07 14:00:00 UTC Pacific Daylight Time (US & Canada) (GMT-07:00)

This is a virtual event

Join us for a moderated discussion with UC Boycott signatories, facilitated and organized by fired UCSC graduate students. This conversation will examine the structures of academic labor and how we might best leverage support for graduate students, including our current strategies of wildcat strikes and speaker boycotts. We will also foreground the institution of tenure (its possibilities and its failures) and, critically, the casualization of academic labor. We welcome honest, critical, and open discussion of the above.

Our events are free and open to all, but if you are able, we suggest a $5 contribution to the UCSC Strike Fund, which is nearly depleted.

The UC Boycott is a call of conscience not to speak at any University of California campuses until the administration reinstates the 41 UCSC graduate students who were fired for strike activities and are now ineligible for fall positions.
