Let’s face it: given the high cost of healthcare in this country, Americans need insurance coverage to access the kind of quality care we all deserve. But today, there are more than 28 million Americans that are uninsured, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made matters worse.
Policymakers have proposed various pathways to deliver universal coverage — Medicare for All, Medicare X, Medicare For All Who Want It, Public Option — but none have become law. How do we close this gap and ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care?
FDIP is pleased to be hosting Former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and current Dean of the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, Dr. Sherry Glied and co-authors of A Citizen's Guide to Medicare for All, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Dr. Micah Johnson, to identify the various policy options to achieve universal coverage, highlight their tradeoffs, and discuss a way forward.
FDIP is committed to universal coverage. We do not have a position on a singular path to achieve it and look forward to promoting a robust discourse that explores a range of paths and grapples with their respective opportunities and challenges
