How can nonviolent action be strategic and effective in resisting injustice and oppression?
Jamila Raqib, Executive Director of the Albert Einstein Institution and a specialist in the study and practice of strategic nonviolent action, will highlight key lessons gained from a study of historical and contemporary global movements. In a world grappling with rising authoritarianism, the spread of violent conflict, and the threat of the climate emergency, Jamila will explore how nonviolent action can remain a powerful tool for those fighting for human rights, democracy, and climate justice.
For 15 years, Jamila worked closely with the late Dr. Gene Sharp, the world’s foremost scholar of the field of strategic nonviolent action. Since 2002, she has been focusing on the development and distribution of educational resources on nonviolent action and has conducted workshops on strategic planning for movements, human rights organizations, universities, and governmental bodies around the world.
