Peace activist, David Hartsough, shares stories and reflections from his 60 years of engagement that apply to the moment we are living in. He will speak to how the world can walk back from the brink of nuclear war with Russia, turn to non-violent solutions in times of crisis rather than always relying on more weapons, and how we can sustain our activism and involvement over the long-haul.

David Hartsough was a long-time employee of the American Friends Service Committee, co-founded the Nonviolent Peaceforce and World Beyond War and wrote a memoir, "Waging Peace: Global Adventures of a Lifelong Activist." Hartsough has organized many peace efforts and worked with nonviolent movements in such far-flung locations as the Soviet Union, Nicaragua, Philippines, and Kosovo. His first arrest was in 1960 for taking part in the civil rights “sit-ins” in Maryland and Virginia with other students where they successfully integrated the lunch counters in Arlington, VA. Since then, he has been arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience more than 150 times. In 2002 he co-founded the Nonviolent Peaceforce which has teams with over 500 nonviolent peacemakers working in conflict areas around the world.  Hartsough also co-founded World Beyond War which has people in over 175 countries working to end all War. Hartsough recently returned from Russia as part of a citizens diplomacy delegation hoping to help bring the US and Russia back from the brink of nuclear war. He is active in the Poor Peoples Campaign and served many years as the Director of Peaceworkers.
