GREENPEACE MARCH

Greenpeace are hosting a peaceful march in Penzance, and then travelling on to Truro. Anyone who agrees with Greenpeace's values is welcome to join this, you can do this here.

The marchers will carry the Greenpeace banner and placards (all the way to Truro if you want). You can join them for the entire march or just part of the planned march. Banner provided. You can bring your own placards, or you can make an A2 placard holder as they will have 14 x A2 official Greenpeace posters, most importantly bring yourself. This is a good opportunity to meet up with Greenpeace supporters, and other organisations with like-minded people.

TIDES REACH 2050

A family event at Jubilee Pool, Penzance from midday to 2pm.

8 local sea swimmers have spent the last 6 weeks attempting to become a synchronised swim team - to show what's possible when we come together to face a rising challenge.

Come see whether they manage to pull it off, join in creative family workshops, learn more about the impact of rising tides on our town and elsewhere, and let the politicians at COP26 know how much we care about the climate crisis and its global impacts.

SCHEDULE:

12 midday: Out of Sink synchronised swim team

12.30 - 2: Free drop-in events:

- A creative family workshop with Sustainable Penzance
- Swim-cap up-cycling workshop with Fiona Chivers (bring your old swim-hat to transform)
- Cornwall Climate Care’s inspiring documentaries about the impact of the climate emergency in Cornwall
- Hear from those experiencing rising tides around the world
- If we’re very lucky, there may even be a visit from a local mermaid.

Thanks to Plastic Free Penzance, Feast Cornwall and others, Tides Reach 2050 is a chance to come together to get more information on the climate emergency, learn more about ways to reduce the impact of plastic on the natural world, take action straight away, and use our voices to influence global leaders.

Artwork created by children at St Mary's C of E School Penzance imagining the Penzance of the future will also be on display.

Jubilee Pool Cafe will be open for refreshments. The main pool at Jubilee Pool will be closed for swimming, but the show will go ahead whatever the weather. The workshops will be held under cover.

Jubilee Pool is a ten minute walk from Penzance train and bus station. Accessible access to the pool is available through the cafe. More info here.

The land swim

In the lead up to this community event, Out of Sink synchronised swim team will also do a 'land swim' from Newlyn to Penzance. The swimmers will ‘swim’ the likely flood plain predicted for 2050 as a result of the climate crisis’ impact on rising tides, (which includes the homes of three of the swimmers and St Mary’s C of E School, as well as many other much-loved community facilities…). The swimmers are aiming to arrive at Jubilee Pool just before midday - so you might also spot them on the way!

On 6 November 2021, as world leaders meet in Glasgow for the COP26 Global Climate Summit, towns and cities across the world will take to the streets demanding global climate justice.

We are living through a period of multiple breaking points - from climate to covid to racism. We know that these crises not only overlap, but share the same cause. 
While no one can escape the impacts of these crises, those who have done least to cause them suffer the most. Across the world, the poorest people and communities of colour are too often those bearing the brunt of the climate crisis. From coastal villages in Norfolk whose sea-defences are eroding faster than ever, to people living by the Niger Delta rivers blackened by oil spillage. 


The Era of Injustice is Over: Our Time is Now

Justice won’t be handed to us by world leaders or delivered by corporations. So far, governments have done too little too late: colluding with corporations and hiding behind green washed ‘solutions’ that actually don’t exist yet, that don’t address the scale of the problem, and in many cases rely on more exploitation of people and the planet.

6 November: Join us one of the actions being organised across the world or organise your own so that we can be loud and clear to the world leaders discussing our future: we want climate justice now!

COP26: Why does it matter?

World leaders and experts will meet in Glasgow in November at the global climate talks, COP26. The decisions made at COP26 will shape how governments respond (or not) to the climate crisis. They will decide who is to be sacrificed, who will escape and who will make a profit. COP26 is happening at a crucial moment in history. Across the world and across movements, we are seeing a new wave of resistance, global solidarity and grassroots organising. We have a unique opportunity to rewire our system as we recover from the pandemic. We can either intensify the crisis to the point of no return, or lay the foundations for a just world where everyone’s needs are met.
