People's Hearing: The Case for a Factory Farm Moratorium

Start: Saturday, June 18, 2022 1:00 PM

End: Saturday, June 18, 2022 3:00 PM

Factory farms pose a grave threat to the health of Iowans, impacting our air and water quality and harming independent farmers and rural communities. Iowans have been voicing their opposition for years, supporting legislation for a moratorium on factory farms since 2018. But despite growing legislative support, the Republican-dominated legislature has refused to allow a hearing on the factory farm crisis or the legislation for a moratorium.

Which is why, on Saturday, June 18, the movement for a factory farm moratorium is hosting our own hearing! We'll be bringing together farmers, impacted community members, and experts to present testimony on the problems caused by factory farms, to be heard by legislators and other expert judges.

The hearing will be held at the Story County Conservation Center, located at McFarland Park, 56461 - 180th Street in Ames, IA. Registration begins at 12:30. The hearing will be from 1-3 PM, with a social hour to follow.

We're still taking COVID-19 very seriously, and because of that, we'll be following Food & Water Watch's Healthy Events guidelines during this event. Bring a mask!
