Peoples Transition Pilot and One Future Groups
Start: Monday, February 22, 2021 at 6:00 PM GMT
This is a virtual event
Over the next 6 months, two communities in Ireland will engage with a pilot project run by TASC called The People’s Transition: Community-led Development for Climate Justice. The pilot will test a model for participative decision making on climate action which seeks to enable local development, give people and communities ownership of the transition to zero carbon societies, and enhance public support for a Just Transition by tackling inequality and raising standards of living through the delivery of climate solutions. It is hoped that the lessons learned from these pilot projects will help to inform recommendations that can advance people-centred climate action in Ireland and across Europe.
Members of One Future groups across Ireland are invited to work alongside the communities and TASC. This will take the form of semi-regular meetings (every month/6 weeks) to observe what has happened within the communities and engage with problems arising and exploring potential solutions. It may also include identifying training and up-skilling needs and provide training in these areas for participants. This values the variety of knowledge, lived experience and expertise within the One Future Groups and the potential for solutions to sticky problems coming from the groups. In the long term, the hope is that engaging externally with this project will give One Future members an increased and in depth understanding of issues and successes within communities trying to engage in Just Transition work. If this pilot scheme is successful, there may be potential to roll this project out to more communities over the next 18 months.
Join us at this launch event for more information from the project lead Sean Mc Cabe about what participation will entail. There are no levels of expertise or knowledge required. So come along and see if you're interested in joining the project.
