End: Tuesday, November 21, 2023 4:00 PM

“Our mission at Peterborough Citizens UK is a people power alliance of diverse local communities working together for the common good. Our mission is to develop local leaders, strengthen local organisations which are the lifeblood of their communities and make change. We are a non-partisan group working with 18 organisations across the city, 15 000 voices, for a common goal voted by the citizens of Peterborough.  We believe everyday people can make change through our leadership training.  Enabling everyday people to partake in democracy and politics.”

In November 2022 our member organisations pledged to listen to 10 000 Peterborough Citizens, by February 2023 we listened to 10 516 Peterborough Citizens that is 5.5% of our population in Peterborough!

We listened to many testimonies around the cities; people angry about littering, poor cycle lanes, sexual harassment, poor lighting on roads, poor public transport, increase of foodbanks, increase in rent and lack of affordable housing and racism. All very big problems and valid and all needing change. However we know, change takes time and we are not superheroes! So we vote the issues we want to campaign on. In February 2023 we voted for Homelessness and housing, crime and safety and racial justice in education as our top priorities.

Homelessness and Housing was voted as the top problem to campaign for. Peterborough citizens are struggling to afford homes, since the cost of living crisis, there has been a 25% increase in the needs of affordable housing and people becoming homeless. There is now a homelessness and housing crisis in Peterborough. Despite our population increasing 300 affordable homes have been reduced in the last decade.

On 21st November Peterborough Citizens come together to exchange stories and research together to move forward to impove the lives of Peterborough Citizens Homelessness and Housing Campaign.
