Political Education: Inflation, Wages, and Labor Struggle
Start: Saturday, November 18, 2023• 6:00 PM
Join us for an in-person political education event in Kingston, at the home of member Brandon Istenes, who will present and lead a discussion of wages and inflation in the context of current class struggles.
Brandon holds an MA in Economic Theory and Policy from the Levy Institute at Bard College, and is currently doing another year of studies to make it an MS. His MA thesis was about universal child care and employment, and his MS thesis is about development economics and government finance. He’s from the west coast but lives in Kingston now.
Brandon will discuss the causes of the present inflation, and the relationship between wages and inflation in historical and international context. The purpose of this talk is to give you tools to explain to people that no, wage increases are not driving inflation, and future wage increases (including increases to the New York minimum wage) will not drive inflation. We will try to keep the presentation brief so we can spend plenty of time discussing.
