He has twice won the New York Society for Professional Journalists award for opinion writing, wrote the first long-form analysis of Christian Nationalists' redefinition of "religious liberty" in 2013, and was the first to report on Leonard Leo's impact on the Supreme Court, in 2018. Jay holds a JD from Yale Law School, a PhD in Jewish Thought, and nondenominational rabbinic ordination.
