Tips are a very significant part of how we eat and how we pay rent. Prior to May 2019, workers' gratuities were not protected from employers dipping their hands in the pot. This was industry standard, and in many cases, employers would take a percentage for business cost, or withhold tips as a disciplinary measure.

Since then, the Employment Standards Act has been amended making it illegal for employers to take any of the tips, with some exceptions (tip pool and tip distribution are still permitted). Regardless of the newer legislation, employers are still dipping their hands in the pot. This can present itself with an increased tip out percentage when minimum wage is raised. Join workers on October 20th, at 1pm PDT on zoom for a free workshop on tip protection.

What is the goal of this workshop?

-Together we are going share tips and tricks to keep track of gratuities;

-learn about your rights in regards to gratuities;

-debunk industry standards myths;

-hear about workers victories;

-discuss what would better tip protection laws look like;

-and more!

Are you tired of your employers lack of transparency and unfair gratuity distribution? Workers understand more than ever that they deserve better protections and fair treatment. Check out the Worker’s Rising : United for a Just Labour Future campaign and join the movement here.
