Queer Crafting Hours - Machine Sewing 101

Start: Saturday, May 04, 2024 3:00 PM

End: Saturday, May 04, 2024 5:00 PM

QUILT is partnering with Daybreak Arts to offer a special Queer Crafting Hour Lesson.

This lesson will be about using a sewing machine. Fabric will be provided, and several machines will be available to use during the lesson. If you have a machine that you'd like to learn more about using, please bring it! The lesson will be tailored towards beginners, but all experience levels are welcome.

During our lesson, we’ll discuss the ecological importance of repairing and reusing clothing, how clothing choices impact perceived gender, the politics of respectability, and reconnecting to and finding joy in creative labor.

  • Queer centered
  • Allies welcome
  • Masks required
  • Materials provided

Future events will discuss of tailoring different types of clothing, sewing and mending techniques, and more. If you have a lesson idea, please let us know!

This venue is wheelchair accessible except for the bathroom, which is very small. If you are partially ambulatory this may not be a problem.
