Please join us for the 7th installment in our Peace & Justice Conversations Series: Peace Education and the Just Schools Movement.

Our guest will be Misty Crompton, who is a middle school social science teacher with 20 years of leadership and experience in the Derry Cooperative School District. She received her B.A. in Social Science Secondary Education with a focus in Human Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont in 1999, where she also received her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. Crompton has also worked part-time as an online instructor for the New Hampshire Department of Education as well as an adjunct instructor with Southern New Hampshire University.

This week’s conversation will center on peace education in our schools, and in particular, the national “Just Schools” movement which Misty is involved with here in New Hampshire. How do we insure our curriculum and our classrooms focus on equity and inclusion in order to build a more just and peaceful world?

Misty’s work is centered on the belief that when schools ensure students feel safe and valued, and also demonstrate they are willing to place relationship building and social justice as a high priority, they will help to promote a safe and positive school culture.

Join Dr. Whitney Howarth, Associate Professor of History and Social Studies Education, at Plymouth State University (New Hampshire) and Misty Crompton (Derry NH middle school) in this timely conversation about our children, our society and the connection between the two.

COVID 19 has brought us to a new moment of reckoning and possibility. How do we want to live in the world? What do we value? How can we make the changes we've been yearning for? NH Peace Action has been engaged in working for change for decades. We'd like to take this moment to bring you into some conversations about issues and options for the future. Our new online abilities make it possible to come together across the state more easily to connect, learn and work for peace and justice. This bi-weekly Zoom series hosted by NHPA members will offer different topics of discussion for each session. Be part of the conversation!

You will receive Zoom link and instructions with your RSVP.  (Make sure to scroll down past the green "Thanks for your support" block to see the Zoom link)
