3 day training April 16, 23, & 30
Become a Regina Abortion Support Network volunteer! This training is designed to prepare you for providing phone, email, and in-person support to those accessing abortion services in Saskatchewan. The training will cover the following topics:
- Reproductive justice frameworks
- What is trauma and what might it look like
- Understanding trauma in healthcare/system interactions
- Abortion procedures, preparation, recovery, and care
- Accessing abortion in Saskatchewan
- Care work for Abortion
- Support volunteer roles: scope, boundaries, and ways to engage
- Q&A w/ abortion providers
This training is being offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. All payments collected will be used to cover the cost of hosting training, with any extra going to our abortion aid fund.
Space in this training is limited - by registering you are committing to attending this training. If you are unable to make it, please let us know as early as possible so that we can offer someone else the opportunity to attend.
RASN understands the the decision to participate in a training like this can be complicated for a lot of reasons. The following information about the space and our plans is for you to take into consideration. If there are other things you need to be able to join us please don't hesitate to reach out. We welcome the opportunity to make this training more accessible.
- pay-what-you-can or nothing at all
- ride shares or funds for ride share services are available
- financial and/or logistical support for childcare is available (babies-in-arms/children who need to be with their primary caregiver are also always welcome in the space)
- digital or printed material will be provided in advance
- large font printing can be provided on request
- All attendees will be asked to maintain a scent-free space
- We ask that all attendees who are eligable have up to date vaccinations for Covid19 and Influenza
- Our venue has a small ramp at the entrance that is unfortunately not standard width - if you need more specific detail about the entry way please reach out
- all washrooms and other facilities are on one floor, though washrooms are quite small
- seating is sturdy and does not have arm rests
- Floor sitting or standing is also welcome! The space will be set up to allow for movement as is wanted or needed
- the space is mostly lit naturally during the day, though there is also soft incandescent overhead lighting.
- The space is a restaurant during the week and there may be any number of ingredients on site - if you have a severe food allergy please let us know so we can take extra precautions with any snacks and refreshments
- snacks and refreshments (coffee, tea, and water) will be available but attendees will be asked to bring a bagged lunch
