Reading Group: The Lucas Plan and Just Transition

Start: Wednesday, June 27, 2018 6:30 PM

End: Wednesday, June 27, 2018 8:30 PM

Google employees recently protested - successfully! - against Google's military contracting work. Their efforts harked back to The Lucas Plan, which was drafted in the 1970s as British aerospace workers sought reconversion of their factory from weapons manufacture to the production of socially useful goods. While the Lucas workers' effort fell short, they set an important example for how workers and trade unionists can propose and fight for alternatives to harmful industrial processes that under capitalism produce deadly weaponry, superfluous consumer goods, or greenhouse gases. This legacy has implications for today's struggles for a just transition away from fossil fuels and militarism.

The NYC DSA Climate Justice and Antiwar working groups are convening a reading group on The Lucas Plan. We will meet on Wednesday, June 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the LGBTQ Center in Room 304. Please RSVP with your name and address if you would like to attend!
