The Reimagining America Project: Truth, Reconciliation, and Atonement Commission is an effort to eliminate racial disparity in our nation by 1) Deconstructing the concept of race and 2) Dismantling racialized systems in order to establish more just ones. This work begun in Charlotte, NC is premised on the fact that racial disparities are not simply the result of individual racists or racist decisions, but premised on systemic problems that require systemic solutions.  

Our work begins decrying the fallacious notion of race with its attendant hierarchies of humanity. Such a notion legitimates disparities along racial lines fostering a system that segregates people and their opportunities and access to wealth, power, and privilege. Thus, RAP:TRAC establishes two tracts to achieve its overall goal: 1) A system of hearings (or “Listenings”) to hear from marginalized people impacted by the racialized system; 2) committees that will explore the influence of race on our social structures and work to find means to atone for historic injustices. It is our hope that the end of this process will be a more just and equitable nation where we manifest our national credo, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all [people] are created equal.”
