Topic: Don't Sabotage the ACA

On June 13, our Representative, Kevin Yoder, voted YES on The Verify First Act. We must admit, even we’re impressed by the name. I mean, why wouldn’t we want to verify, right? He says it will help “get health care resources to the people need it, not people here in our country illegally,” (the grammatical error is theirs, not ours) but we see it differently.

This act will prolong the process of legal immigrants purchasing health care, especially young ones. If the verification doesn’t happen in a timely manner, young people could be denied and if not enough young people enter the marketplace, costs will rise and make health insurance more expensive for everyone.

This act not only undermines our health system by maybe keeping legal immigrants from purchasing health insurance but it is also another attempt to destabilize the marketplace by eventually making health insurance not affordable.
