REPORT FROM MIAMI: RESISTING TRANSATLANTIC CORPORATE TRADE

Start: Sunday, October 25, 2015 7:30 PM

At this week’s 11th Round of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership meeting in Miami, Chief U.S. Negotiator, Dan Mullaney, stated that the timeline to seal the deal is supposedly during President Obama’s term.  Unfortunately, Europeans have quite a lot to say about that, and so do we!  Apparently, since the citizens of the E.U. have more access to the texts of TTIP than we do, there is massive popular resistance to this deal and the neoliberal model in general.  Turns out that the people are taking to the streets in large numbers protesting the ideology that enshrines corporate interests having sovereignty over nation states.  Europeans tend to be very opinionated about the consideration of climate science and environmental protection along with living wages and public health, when it comes to approving a binding trade agreement like TTIP.  Funny, we feel the same way.
