Report From Rojava: Women's Revolution, Direct Democracy, and Social Ecology in North-East Syria

Start: Thursday, November 14, 2024 7:00 PM

Report from Rojava: Women’s Revolution, Direct Democracy & Social Ecology in North-East Syria will take place Thursday November 14th @ 7pm, at Boise State University’s Imagination Lab.

After nearly twelve years, despite a relentless war of aggression waged by Turkey and ISIS, the Kurdish freedom movement, alongside the other diverse peoples of North-East Syria, continue to build and defend a sweeping social revolution rooted in the principles of direct-democracy, women’s liberation, cooperative economics, cultural pluralism and social ecology.

How is society being organized in Rojava? What are the revolution’s achievements and challenges? How did this movement transform chaos into social transformation, and what lessons could we apply to organizing our own local communities?

Join journalist Arthur Pye for a discussion about his own time in the region, what is happening in Rojava today, why it matters, and how we can stand in solidarity.

Co-hosted by the Emergency Committee for Rojava (ECR) and the Salish Sea Action Collective (SSAC). Admission is FREE to the public.

Arthur Pye is a writer and community organizer based in the Pacific Northwest, who lived in North-East Syria for one year, studying and reporting on the Rojava revolution. He is a steering committee member of the Emergency Committee for Rojava, and his writing can be found in Strange Matters magazine.
