The San Diego Organizing Project and partner faith institutions invite you to our San Diego County Sheriff's Candidate Forum!

The San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP) and partner faith institutions are hosting a candidate forum for the San Diego County Sheriff position on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.

The event will be held at City of Hope International Church in Southeast San Diego. The event will also be streamed on Zoom for those who are unable to make it in-person.

Both candidates, Kelly Martinez, and John Hemmerling, have agreed to participate. The format of the forum will allow both candidates to make opening statements, answer a series of questions generated from community needs, and make closing comments.

Topics will include: safety, housing, immigration, and jail deaths.

All San Diego County residents are invited to attend.

SDOP is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization and does not endorse or oppose any candidates for office nor political parties. This forum will be conducted in accordance with all federal and state regulations regarding electioneering and partisanship. The intention of this forum is public civic education and civic engagement to allow voters to understand candidates' positions on key community issues.

SDOP is a nonpartisan, multi-faith network of 30 congregations that represents more than 70,000 families across San Diego County. As one of the most diverse grassroots organizations in the region, we uniquely bridge racial, cultural and economic divides. We unlock the power of people to bring justice, equality, and greater opportunity to fruition in their communities. Together, we are building a new vision of what is possible in San Diego County.
