We need your help . . . and it might save a life.

On February 3, the San Mateo City Council will consider removing the newly installed bike lanes around San Mateo High and College Park Elementary Schools. This would greatly decrease safety for the many kids and adults who use the lanes to get to school, work, parks, and the Bay Trail.

Anti-bike lane advocates are planning on turning out in force for this meeting. We need to demonstrate to Council that a majority of City of San Mateo residents do not want their scarce taxpayer dollars to be used to rip out bike lanes that we installed only two years ago. We need safer streets and a reduction in the multiple, preventable deaths and serious injuries that we see on San Mateo streets every year. Humboldt and North Central are equity priority communities and have the highest rates of traffic violence in San Mateo; it is unthinkable that the City might spend time and potentially over $1 million in taxpayer funds to make these streets even less safe.

Please RSVP and add this event to your calendar. You can attend via Zoom (link will be sent later), although please make a plan to be there in person if possible. Thank you and with your help we can save the bike lanes and continue to make the streets safer for our kids.
