The location of this community hike is a timber sale called "Alley Cat," a beautiful naturally regenerated forest near the Elwha river. We’ll be on the ancestral land of the Elwha Klallam people that features mature cedars and Douglas fir. "Alley Cat" is at risk of being auctioned to a timber company by the Department of Natural Resources this year. On the hike we will explore the forest and learn about how it can be protected.

Logistics: The hike is Saturday, March 16th starting at 10:30 am and ending by 1:30 pm. We will meet at 10:15 am at the Laird Road park and ride. HERE is the google maps location. We will then carpool/caravan less than 5 minutes down the road to the forest.

Please be aware that this hike is off-trail and traverses terrain that may pose challenges to some individuals. The path is not paved and may include steep inclines, uneven surfaces, and obstacles such as tree roots and logs. Participants should expect to encounter various natural features and may need to navigate through wet brush.

Given the rugged nature of the terrain, we recommend that participants be in good physical condition and comfortable with hiking in potentially challenging conditions. Additionally, it is advisable to wear appropriate attire, including sturdy hiking footwear, weatherproof clothing such as a rain jacket and pants, and waterproof boots to ensure comfort and safety throughout the hike.

While we strive to create an inclusive and accessible experience for all participants, we recognize that individual needs may vary. If you have specific accessibility concerns or require accommodations to participate in the hike, please contact us in advance so that we may assist you to the best of our ability.

What to bring: Weather appropriate clothing, hiking footwear, water, snacks. We will hike rain or shine.
