SCADP Interfaith Press Conference: October 10th, 2023

Start: Tuesday, October 10, 202311:00 AM

End: Tuesday, October 10, 202312:00 PM

If you are a religious or spiritual leader in South Carolina, we need your help.

On October 10th, World Day Against the Death Penalty, we are organizing a press conference at 11:00am on the SC Statehouse Front Steps (North Side). As faith leaders, we are asking Governor McMaster to stop pursuing executions in South Carolina. Here are some things you need to know:

  • The Press Conference is an interfaith press conference. That means leaders from any religious or spiritual tradition is welcome to join.
  • The Press Conference will last 15-20 minutes and will feature voices from different faith/religious/spiritual traditions across South Carolina.
  • The press conference will coincide with a petition launch for faith/religious/spiritual leaders to sign, asking for Gov. McMaster to stop pursuing executions in the State of South Carolina.
Here's what we need from you:
  1. Sign up to attend. We want a good headcount of how many people will be present, and which religious or spiritual tradition you may be representing.
  2. Come wearing religious attire that is most appropriate and most comfortable for you to wear on prophetic occasions (e.g., robes, stoles, clerical collars, etc.)
  3. Come prepared to stand behind the press conference speakers. If you would like to stand behind the press conference speakers, please plan to be on the Front Steps of the Statehouse (facing Gervais Street) at 10:45am. This is especially good for leaders who do not feel comfortable speaking.

If you are interested in being one of the press conference speakers or speaking to the press after the press conference, please email us ASAP at info@scadp.org! We are in the final stages of planning for the press conference, and we want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to share what's on their hearts and minds, while also using speakers strategically.

Please let us know if you have any mobility concerns so we can guide you to the most accessible way up the front of the State House.
