School Board Town Hall (with Supt. Marten & Trustees Evans & Whitehurst-Payne)
Start: Monday, May 01, 2017• 4:00 PM
End: Monday, May 01, 2017• 6:00 PM
The school board & superintendent are laying off 1 in every 7 educators, so...
WE'RE FIGHTING BACK!
Parents and educators are holding town hall meetings with Superintendent Marten and every school board member. We want them to hear from us about how laying off nearly 1,000 educators and making other slash-and-burn cuts effect our schools.
We know these layoffs are wrong! Their projected budget deficit is based on worst-case scenario predictions. The District doesn't really know what its budget will be until June. Right now they are just guessing, and they have a long history of guessing wrong. Last year their budget was off by 48%, and in 2014-15 by 94%!
Educators have a better plan for our schools.
- We're fighting back against layoffs.
- We're standing up for a L.E.A.R.N. union contract that gives our kids and schools the resources they need.
What will happen at the town hall? Our town halls won't be like school board meetings. Participants in the town hall will run the show -- not the school board. We will ask tough questions and hold the school board and Superintendent Marten accountable. We will be powerful, united, and we won't back down until they do the right thing for kids.
- 4-5PM - Pizza party, sign-making, and preparation
- 5-6PM - Town hall begins
Who can come to a town hall? SDUSD parents, educators, students, and community members who want to stand up against layoffs and for a L.E.A.R.N. union contract should come to the town hall.
Wear RED for unity to the town hall!
