Workshops

The Inclusive Curriculum & Assessment (James Whiting) – What is wrong with the current curriculum & assessment system? What is positive? How can we design a fully inclusive curriculum and assessment system?

Accountability: Parent voice & Structures (Graham Mellors, Louise Engels, Katie Clarke) – What are the barriers to full accountability in our education system? How can we rebuild the system to make it accountable at local and national levels?

How Can We Move Beyond An Education System That Excludes? (Carmen Peruga, Anna Wolmuth & others TBC) – Exclusions and Alternative Provision – what’s the alternative?

Funding, Finance & the Postcode Lottery (John Keever,  Anntoninette Bramble) – How does SEND funding operate? Apart from ending chronic underfunding, what changes are needed for a fairer more inclusive system?

Neurodiversity (Janine Booth) – What barriers do schools and colleges create for neurodivergent learners? Can we move away from the individual support model? How do we make education (and society!) accessible to all?

Disability Equality in Our Schools - How We Can Use The Equality Act (Richard Reiser). Is the Equality Act being applied in all our education settings? How can pupils, parent/carers and staff ensure that it is? What must Labour do to eliminate disability discrimination in education?

Planned timing:

11am to 11.20 am - Welcome, intros, short contributions from a panel of speakers.

11.20 - 12.05 pm– Breakout rooms for workshops x 5

12.05  to 12.15 BREAK

12.15 - 1pm- Breakout rooms for workshops x 5 (all repeated, depending on numbers attending)

1 pm to 1.25 pm - Plenary - brief feedback from workshops, drawing together key points for a SEND Manifesto.
