Join Soul 2 Soul Sisters August 26, 2023 for this Special Black Girl Recess: Second Hand Healing:Using comedy for self-expression and self-discovery with Shanel Hughes.  Laughter is said to be the best medicine, but what about the best healer? In Second Hand Healing, we will be exploring your relationship with humor, how humor has helped you heal and the cathartic effects of stand-up comedy as a testimony to being able to laugh at the good and bad things life throws at us. Together, we will craft a comedy set from your authentic life experience, and share it at the end of the class. Get ready to help others heal while you do the same. If second hand smoke can cause damage, let's see the magic second hand healing can do.

Shanel Hughes is a local stand-up comedian, crafter, event producer, wife, mother and gorgeous human all around. Shanel is a 30 years old, Black American, neurodivergent and originally from Denver, CO and has been married to their lovely wife, Uchenna Ohaya (musician and poet) for almost two years now. Shanel grew up with a single mom here in Denver, and amidst their proclamation of love and queerness, no longer speaks to their born family. Shanel graduated from Colorado State University and after working in insurance for five years, quit and decided to pursue a career in comedy and living life full time. Shanel currently produces and hosts queer and Black centered events in the community with their wife, performs stand-up, and crafts (custom and just did their first consignment this year!). Shanel is on their way back to self and loves meeting others on the same journey as well.
