Moran's Visit: Prevent Firing of Special Counsel
Start: 2017-08-04 12:00:00 UTC Central Time (US & Canada) (GMT-06:00)
This is a virtual event
Senators Lindsay Graham and Senator Cory Booker will be introducing a bipartisan bill that will prevent a president from firing a special counsel that is investigating either the president or his staff without judicial hearing. It has the support of all Senate Democrats but only a few Republicans.
Senator Graham sent out a warning to Trump saying that firing Mueller “could be the beginning of the end” of his presidency.
Trump currently has indirect power to fire Mueller. Since AG Jeff Sessions has recused himself, Deputy AG Rosenstein would have the responsibility. If he refused, Trump could fire him and appoint a new Deputy AG who would do the job.
Senator Grassley has made it clear that the 2017 schedule for the Intelligence Committee is completely full and a confirmation of a new AG or Deputy AG won’t be added to the calendar.
We will visit Senator Moran's office to ask him to support this bill, so we are not faced with a constitutional crisis, similar to the one President Nixon put our country in with his Saturday Night Massacre.
