Session 3 - The US and the Global Tax System
Start: Saturday, April 27, 2024• 2:00 PM
Join us to learn how global tax justice could be a tool for reparations and climate justice. Tax the Rich - Everywhere! is a three-part education series developed by the DSA International Committee. It will be held online with an option to participate in person at the People’s Forum in Manhattan, New York.
In our final session, Steven Dean of Boston University Law School will examine the parallels and connections between the US and the Global Tax System. We will discuss the origins of our profoundly unequal global tax system and how it does for the world what racially discriminatory tax policies achieved in the United States in the years after slavery ended, drawing from his forthcoming book: Global Jim Crow: International Taxation and Racial Capitalism. He will also examine how reforms in US legislation and policy could provide some solutions to dismantling the unjust global tax order.
