Frequently social work is co-opted into hostile immigration and asylum policy. We do not believe this is consistent with social work’s core mandate. This webinar will explore the power of social work education to inspire and invite social workers to be allies in the movement for migrant justice, and to uphold a model of social work practice which is congruent to the profession's ethics and standards. We will share our insights and ideas, to encourage thought and reflection on gaps and opportunities in social work education.

During this session we will share ideas about:

  • Why social work students need education about immigration and asylum matters
  • Ideas for how we can approach an education that deepens social workers’ understanding of lived realities of migration & border regimes, and better equips us for working with people impacted by borders
  • Our vision for social work education
  • Useful resources for practitioners
