On August 31st, the US military officially withdrew from Afghanistan, marking an end to America’s longest war. As the 20th anniversary of the US invasion draws near, it’s worth looking back at the early years of this destructive conflict.

Why did the US invade Afghanistan? What powers did Congress grant the Bush Administration in the War on Terror? Who benefitted from the war in Afghanistan—and at what cost to Afghans?

Joining us to tackle these questions and more is John Feffer, co-director of Foreign Policy in Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of Splinterlands (Haymarket Books, 2016.)

This event will consist of a short lecture followed by a Q&A session. DSA members around the country are welcome to join us!
