Solidarity Circle with the Families of Palestine
Start: Sunday, May 12, 2024•11:00 AM
We will not go along with business as usual this Mother's Day!
Neighbors, caregivers and families will gather in the Long Meadow in Prospect Park and form a circle on the earth, representing our solidarity with the families of Palestine and with each other. We come together to express our grief and rage at the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by the state of Israel. We call specific attention to the maternal health crisis in Gaza, the targeting of children, and the dehumanization of Palestinian men.
Please bring your own signs that you make at home! There will be music improvisations, activities for children and families (see below), and speakers from NY-10 Neighbors, Brooklyn Seeds, and Jewish Voice for Peace.
Activities for children and families:
Painted Stone Art Installation: We will create a semi-permanent art installation/altar using painted stones to honor the Palestinian families lost to genocide. We will paint on the stones with paint markers at the action and arrange them on the earth in a circle. We invite you to go on a nature walk the week before the action and select stones to bring to the action that you can paint.
Palestinian Seeds & Songs: Eman, founder of Brooklyn Seeds, will engage children in a planting activity. Children will learn about and plant Palestinian seeds that they can take home. Eman will also teach us Palestinian children’s songs that we can sing together!
