Solidarity Peace Gathering - Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Start: Saturday, January 21, 201711:00 AM

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, millions will gather in Washington D.C. and in hundreds of cities around the world. This is a local event for those that will be unable to travel to Washington D.C. - instead, we will peacefully gather in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington here in Playa del Carmen. There are many other similar gatherings throughout Mexico (17 at this moment) and the world (over 600) .

Why gather/march?

The Women’s March in DC and the additional global sister gatherings are intended to be a first step towards unifying our communities.  It is nonpartisan.

"Women’s rights are human rights, regardless of a woman’s race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual identity, gender expression, economic status, age or disability. We practice empathy with the intent to learn about the intersecting identities of each other... We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all."  Source: www.womensmarch.com

This is an INCLUSIVE PEACEFUL gathering/march (stroll)...strollers, children, teens, families, individuals are all very welcome. It is nonpartisan. It is not a protest.

Our solidarity here in Playa must respect our limitations as many of us are visitors in this country and so we will not be officially "marching", shouting/chanting or carrying large signs or banners (small ones with words or images for "peace", "tolerance", "equality", etc would be fantastic though ...especially if handmade ~ in English, Spanish or any other language would be fantastic as well! :).

***Our intent is to enjoy the company of one another as we stroll and contemplate either in silence or in constructive and solution-focused dialogue the challenges we all face as part of the human rights advocacy community.

We will gather at 11:00am on Saturday, January 21st at the Portal Maya. For those who'd like to walk/stroll together, we'll head out around 11:15am on 5th Avenue and head north.  Our end destination will be the Ah Cacao on calle 40th (which is a 2.1 kilometer walk).  You may walk as little or as far as you'd like.  A few more details will be sent out soon. We are in communication with the municipality about this event.  Please RSVP to let us know you plan on attending - we hope to see you there!
