South Central PA: Be Heard on Redistricting

Start: 2021-09-15 19:00:00 UTC Eastern Daylight Time (US & Canada) (GMT-04:00)

This is a virtual event

Join our Zoom event at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 15, to review maps from two Fair Districts PA winning map makers, Michael Waxenberg and Ryan Cedzo.

We want to hear from you.

The goal is to get a broad spectrum of community input, and to use the knowledge of local constituents to provide feedback to Fair Districts PA mappers who will submit PA House and PA Senate maps to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission.

We will also touch on preparing and submitting your concerns and priorities (your testimony) for our new state legislative maps to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission and US Congressional map to the State Government Committees. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.

We look forward to seeing you on September 15, and helping you give voice to your priorities and preferences for redistricting in our region.

In preparation for the meeting, take 15 min to do these three tasks:

  1. Think about what defines your community and jot down some notes. Whether it’s a shared economic interest, school districts, or other social, cultural, historical, or economic interests – we're interested in hearing your thoughts and how that can be represented on a map.
  2. Take our What Matters Most in Drawing Fair Maps survey, to both help you prepare for the conversation and assist Fair Districts PA mappers as they review comments and finalize a set of maps to submit to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission.
  3. Watch this 5 min video to get a better understanding of the tool our mappers used to draw their maps.

When we use the phrase LACRA Values we mean: Compactness; Contiguity; Minimal splits to counties, municipalities and wards; Equal representation for minority communities; and Maps that uphold the principles of free and equal elections and one person/one vote. Respect for communities of interest, geographic boundaries and responsiveness to voters were secondary priorities.
