Southeast Climate Strike & Rebellion
Start: Friday, September 27, 2019• 9:30 AM
On Friday September 27th we will carry out a non-violent strike in rebellion against our criminally negligent government on behalf of life itself. We cannot stand idly by and allow the ongoing destruction of all we love. We have a right and duty to rebel against an economic system whose goal is to make profit and protect the powerful, where our lives and the Earth are used up and destroyed so the rich can get richer. As part of a season of global climate actions, groups from throughout the Southeast intend to bring thousands of people into the streets of Atlanta to declare that we will no longer accept business as usual.
+ Business as usual means carbon emissions that condemn much of the life on our planet to extinction, including humanity.
+ Business as usual means disproportionate environmental impacts in communities of color and in poor communities.
+ Business as usual means that most of us get up every day and go to jobs that we know in our hearts will eventually destroy all that we hold dear.
So we intend to demonstrate the power of people working collectively through a general strike in order disrupt business as usual, to change the system so it may no longer hold us hostage.
We will hold a convergence space for training, communication and support from Wednesday, 9/25 through Saturday, 9/28. You will be notified of the location after you register. Please go to Climate Strike and Rebellion Convergence to register and receive more information.
On the day of action, Friday, September 27th, meet at the Buckhead MARTA station at 9:30 AM. We will hold a street party, reclaiming the streets as a place for the people with musicians, speakers, food and a family-friendly celebration of mass, nonviolent civil disobedience. We will stop the flow of traffic because we know that those in power only pay attention when their economy gets interrupted and when people are willing to risk their liberty. Any inconvenience to the general public comes not out of malice but desperation, and because this crisis affects all of us.
We invite you to leave work and join us on the streets.
This action is in solidarity with the Global Climate Strike week and Fridays For Future USA
