Hydrogen: The Hope and the Hype

The content will cover the physical and chemical characteristics of Hydrogen. Hydrogen's utility in the big picture of climate change (as an energy storage method, as a fuel for vehicles and airplanes, as a boost to decarbonize steel, concrete, etc. Myths about greenwashing, “The Hindenburg Disaster,” and water requirements of hydrogen production. Finally, the US Government’s National Clean Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap.

Presenter: David Spence, M.D.

David is a partially retired physician/pediatrician and is gainfully employed as a school bus driver in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. My hands-on experience with hydrogen as a fuel dates back 20+ years when I took a weekend seminar by Roy McCallister, “Using Hydrogen to fuel internal combustion engines.” I converted a go-cart to use hydrogen and a propane Bar-B-Que grill to burn hydrogen. In recent years I have tried to keep up with the burgeoning developments in hydrogen as a fuel, energy storage method, and as a means to decarbonize sectors like steel and cement.
